Journeys in Classic Film – The Summer Edition

Two posts in one day! Get used to it because once the summer hits I’m going to be a posting fiend so if you’re not subscribed to the Facebook, the Twitter (www.twitter.com/Journeys_Film), or through the various other ways to follow the blog then please do so. Sadly, the new layout for the site has removed the convenient Facebook/Twitter/RSS buttons at the top so I’ll have to find a way to get those back. With that, here’s a few updates I didn’t want to throw in to the end of today’s review (because after reading all my blather who wants to get to the end just to read some updates?).
Book Giveaway: So far we have one entry for our book contest so please enter if you haven’t! Again, I’m giving away a copy of Bernard F. Dick’s book Hollywood Madonna – Loretta Young. All you have to do is email me at kristen@cc2konline.com with the subject Loretta Young Giveaway, your name and address. If you don’t want to give your address to a total stranger (and I won’t blame you) just email me with your name and if you win you can give me your address then…the things I do for you people. It’s open until May 19th to all residents of the US and Canada. If this contest goes well there will be more, promise!
Leading Man Tournament: The Leading Man Tournament kicks off May 20th! There’s banners available for you to post on your Facebook, Twitter, blog right here. Thanks to all the amazing bloggers who have posted up a banner or given the tournament shoutouts, and thanks to Monty over at All Good Things who is working on an intro that will be going up for the tournament. The tourney will work this way. Each week starting May 20th, I’ll post a poll (so vote dammit!) with the five men of that decade for the next eight weeks going from 1930-2010. I’m limiting it to five for this tourney, if it’s a success next year I’ll expand. The tourney will continue till a Leading Man is crowned! I’m hoping to do with this actresses towards the latter half of the year.
Journeys in Classic Film Summer Events: There’s a few other events I’ll be participating in and doing over the summer. I’ve gotten a lot of movie recommendations and requests from the readers and I’ll try to review those. If you have a movie, an actor, a director, book, ANYTHING you want me to review or think I’d like comment or shoot me an email. I’ll be doing a few blogging events as well if you haven’t noticed.
June 1st-3rd: I’ll be reviewing The Little Princess for the Mary Pickford Blogathon over at KC’s Classic Movies
June 28th: I’ll be reviewing The Heiress for the William Wyler Blogathon hosted at The Movie Projector
July 7th-12th: I’ll be participating and reviewing Match Point in honor of The Best Films Alfred Hitchcock Never Made Blogathon hosted by Classic Becky’s Brainfood and Tales of the Easily Distracted Blog
August: And throughout August I’ll be reviewing the hilarious vacation films set in California for the Cinematic World Tour Blogathon over at All Good Things
I’m also hoping to host a blogathon or two myself in the next couple months (I have a great idea for Halloween, and might do one before that) if anyone’s interested.
Movie Updates: I am attempting to see 100 films for the first time and Father’s Little Dividend marked 90 movies and it’s only May! I’m not sure if anyone would be interested in me posting up a list of the 100 movies on the blog but I feel it’s an accomplishment and most have been reviewed here. With that, there are two votes on this week’s poll. I asked whether you preferred my reviews of contemporary or classic films and those two votes are in favor of classic. Please vote in the poll but the consensus seems to be leaning towards classic so I’ll be abstaining from reviewing films within the last ten years and attempting to stick to films from 1900s-early 90s (because those are classic to this current generation).
That seems to be a pretty long amount of me updating you. Hopefully everyone is excited and please spread the love of Journeys in Classic Film, I’d hate to be writing to myself. Don’t want to turn into Jack Torrance.

Sounds like you are going to have a busy summer! Nice job on seeing 90 new movies already. I wouldn’t mind seeing the full list if you already have it typed. I’m a sucker for projects like that. 🙂
Thanks! I’ve been keeping track of it on IMDb and Letterboxd but I’ll be posting it up here as well.
Thanks! I have it posted on IMDb and Letterboxed but I’ll copy it here.
