A Book Review Winner, Upcoming Book Reviews, and More Fun Stuff!

A winner has been declared in the first (of many I hope) Journeys in Classic Film contests.  I would like to thank all those who sent in entries (and I apologize for the few I had to turn down due to shipping problems).  The winner, who will be getting a copy of Bernard F. Dick’s Hollywood Madonna: Loretta Young is….Runnell Carl!   So Runnell has 48 hours (so until Sunday at 1pm Pacific time) to email me an address I can ship the prize to.  If I don’t hear from the winner before or at that time I will have to give the prize to someone else.  Congrats again and don’t worry if you didn’t win, there will be more giveaways in the future!

That leads me to a few more upcoming book reviews that I’ll be doing (some of these might have prizes).  I have a bunch of books I have (and I apologize to the kind authors who sent me these as I’m finally getting to them).  Upcoming books including The Testament of Judith Barton, a prequel/backstory of sorts to Vertigo!  There’s also going to be reviews on a few biographies about Robert Mitchum and Dana Andrews.  I got a few books about the history of film extras and a revisionist zombie story about the Beatles.  There’s two others I’ve very excited for but I have to keep a few surprises under my hat!  Hopefully the book reviews are pleasing to people because I’m sure having fun reading and writing about them!

Also, you might have noticed some additional ad videos on the site.  Wordpress has allowed me to join their WordAds program and if you watch the videos I earn a little money.  Money by which I can buy prize materials to give to you amazing readers (so see advertisements DO benefit the audience).

A poll update to close things out.  Things are getting freaky with this poll!  Out of nowhere You Can’t Take It With You jumped to the lead with 7 votes!  Right now it’s two ahead of Charlie Chaplin‘s City Lights.  The Children’s Hour, The Killers, and Tie Me Up Tie Me Down are all tied with two votes.  The poll doesn’t close till Sunday so I’m excited to see who comes out on top in those two days.

Also, LAMMYs voting is still ongoing so if you are a LAMB member I gently urge and hope that you’ll vote for Journeys in Classic Film, the For Your Consideration ad is on the sidebar.
