Updates for Today!

I got bogged down with some things today so no movie review (might post one up mid-afternoon but no promises).  Figured I’d do a few updates that way you weren’t completely upset with me!  I have been doing pretty awesome with my daily post streak though.  To start look at that awesome new banner!  I figured I’d include some of the lovely ladies I’ve features on this blog and I’m planning on changing out the actresses periodically.  My banner (and banner-making skills) have come a long way since the start of this blog; especially considering the logo started out created in Windows Paint and I’ve slowly acquired a basic understanding of Photoshop since.  Hope you like the new logo, welcome to Ms. Lauren Bacall, Marilyn Monroe, Myrna Loy, and Veronica Lake who will be gracing the banner of this site once the Leading Man Tourney come to an end.

After the jump, more updates!

Speaking of the Leading Man Tournament, barring any setbacks it should come to a close July 29th!  I’ll do an overview of the entire tournament once a winner has been declared but I consider it a success in the amount of votes we’ve acquired and the roller-coaster of the winners.  I am planning on bringing it back next year (and opening up the nominees from 5 to 7-10).  I also hope to do a Leading Lady Tournament sometime next year as well, possibly cutting the two up into beginning of the year and end of the year.

The Universal Backlot Blogathon is shaping up to be quite the event and I’m so happy to see the amount of bloggers come and participate, not just blogs I know but new ones as well.  We’re up to 14 participants (not including me) and there’s still room for more if you’re interested.  All the information is right here: Universal Backlot Blogathon if you’re interested in getting involved and even if you don’t have a blog I’m more than happy to host whatever you’d like to turn in!

In terms of film output you’ve noticed my choices have been a bit diverse and I’ve sadly put aside some of the regular things I’d planned to do.  I’m attempting to balance out the few library movies (with due dates) between my Netflix and my DVR which has put a hold on the Journeys into the Disney Vault and the Reader Requests.  I’ll try to get back on track with those soon!  Also, I’m going on another marathon of mine that I’d love suggestions on.  I recently discovered the wealth of various B-level and/or made for television celebrity biopics and decided….how bad can some of these be?  I haven’t dubbed this project yet (taking suggestions) but I’ll be gathering as many as are readily available.  The rules are simple: if they were theatrical releases they must be bombs, any and all television films count but they must be film related (this nixed a few made-for-tv films surrounding singers).  I know I want to watch the dual Harlow films (which Comet Over Hollywood reviewed last year) and I’ll be trying to get my hands on both of those as well as a bunch of others.  I’m going off an IMDB created list so if you have any requests let me know.

Speaking of purchases (segues are cool!) you might have noticed the bottom of my recent film posts and/or mentions of Amazon purchases.  I recently got into the Amazon affiliate game as a means of making a tiny bit of revenue for the blog.  If you are interested in purchasing any films I review the film posters take you to their Amazon pages, if you purchase the films I get a small piece.  I hate shilling on this blog but I do need to spend money on bad 1965 Jean Harlow biopics people!

That will do for updates today!

  1. Wow – so much going on! With all these contests and blogathons going on this summer, you’ve inspired me to write my own “updates” post, just to keep everyone in the know. Very god idea. Hope you don’t mind my stealing it from you!

    • Thanks, I generally do them when I’m too lazy to review (don’t tell anybody). Trust me, I used to do them a lot more than I do now. Feel free to borrow them, I really think every blogger has their own way to provide updates!
