The Lake Update for December
I’m trying to steer away from generic sounding names so the whole Blog Update thing had to go. Thankfully Ms. Veronica Lake has given me the perfect new update name so anytime there’s a blog update you’ll see it labeled as The Lake Update! With that I’m going to discuss a few upcoming things you’ll be seeing, asking a few questions, and telling you all why you should keep coming back to read my awesome ramblings! Let’s dive in!
School is out in just a few weeks (three to be precise but a fourth week is included to drop off finals), and after that I’ll be getting back into the swing of a review a day. You might even see two a day! Actually I’ll have a lot of free time as I’m scheduled to have a little light surgery on the 17th of December (nothing to worry about although I’m fairly worried because I’m a hypochondriac), so my recovery time gives me a great excuse to watch movies and blog! In terms of Christmas films I will be reposting a few reviews I wrote from last Christmas, but that’s not to say you won’t see some new Christmas movies. I’m actually taking suggestions on Christmas films to review. I have a few ideas, but I’m all for watching something I’ve never heard of. If your suggestion has already been reviewed I can repost the review in question. So email any suggestions to journeysinclassicfilm@gmail.com, or leave a comment here! December 1st I’ll try to have a list of what movies I’ll be reviewing/reposting. I won’t do a schedule as we saw how that went during Halloween. I’m considering reposting older reviews in the event I don’t have anything, or if I’m rewatching the old movie in question. This just lessens my stress a bit, particularly when school comes back around.
I’m also hoping to give out a few prizes for Christmas so stay tuned for those. As we get closer to the end of the year I’ll be counting down my Top 10 films of the Year as well as the Top 10 Films I Reviewed This Year, and possibly my Top 10 Classic Films of the Year. Doing this blog has opened me up to see a lot of new films so it will be quite a challenge to narrow these down. The blog officially turned a year old (REALLY?!) last week so for Thanksgiving I’ll be listing the Top 10 Things I’m Thankful For (That This Blog Helped Me Accomplish).
January will see the start of my Leading Lady Tournament. It’ll run about the same as our Leading Man Tourney, going from 1930-2010. I’m still working on logistics such as amount of nominees, and who we’ll be seeing, but again suggestions are welcome so if you have a particular actress let me know!
In future I’m trying to conjure up a few more regular features. Journeys in the Disney Vault isn’t going anywhere, nor is Old Hollywood Book Reviews (that I’m hoping will get a name change soon). I’m also considering changing the name of Golden Age on the Silver Screen which will be going into the new year as well. I’m attempting to start-up some type of DVD box set review where each week sees a review of an individual movie from a box set leading up to reviewing the box set as a whole. This would essentially help me get through all the box sets I have stuck in my closet. Let me know what you think about it.
That’s what’s upcoming, again this blog is nothing with you kind readers, so don’t hesitate to let me know what’s working and what isn’t. One year in and looking forward to another year of fun!

Love Veronica Lake is one very gorgeous sexy woman. The Lake Update is a great idea. Look forward to your sharing. James Dean again. Please just one great film to honour him. His life was so powerful like fireworks,. As Jack Kerouac says:…”The only people for me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones who never yawn or say a commonplace thing but burn, burn, burn like fabulous yellow roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars and in the middle you see the blue center light pop and everybody goes, ‘Awww!’ Now the people creating films on Jack’s life should do James Dean and for the theatres. Thanks, I think I’m gonna keep it around. I’m definitely hoping to get more Dean films on the site, a lot far better than what’s been in the TV movie category.
Sounds like you have a lot of great things planned. I don’t know if you’ve reviewed it yet, but I’d be interested to hear what you think about THE BISHOP’S WIFE (1947). I hope your surgery goes well – try not to worry too much about it! I’ll be thinking of you!
Haha, I do have a bad habit of trying things out and never getting to them so I hope to accomplish all of this. I did write up a review of The Bishop’s Wife last year (one of my FAVORITE Christmas movies) so I’ll be sure to repost it for you!
