News From the Lake: Rare Movie Memorabilia to Be Auctioned, TCM Classic Cruise, The King of Comedy on HD
It’s Wednesday and that means some more News From the Lake. Today we’ll look at an upcoming movie auction of some pretty incredible, and rare, movie memorabilia…
If you were at the TCM Classic Film Festival this weekend then the name Bonhams must have been around constantly; they’re the auction that partnering with TCM to put on the fest, as well as assessing items for various guests to determine their value. In November, Bonhams will be auctioning a cadre of rare and highly valued movie items that, if you have the moola, you might want to get on. Included in the sale will be Humphrey Bogart‘s suit from The Big Sleep, and a Batsuit worn by Michael Keaton in Batman (both of which you see above). More will be revealed leading up to the auction which will have previews in New York, Hong Kong, London, and New York. A portion of the proceeds will go to The Film Foundation, an organization devoted to preserving film history. If I was a millionaire I’d want to purchase that Bogart suit!
Hopefully you aren’t suffering from post-TCM Classic Film Festival malaise because we got information on more TCM events. Prepare to set sail with the TCM crew as they’ve just announced the dates and upcoming information for the third annual TCM Classic Cruise. Slated for December 8th-13th, the TCM Cruise will be taking place on the majestic Disney Magic cruise ship. Yes, they have come up with the best idea ever to combine TCM with Disney! Stops on the cruise include Nassau and Disney’s own Castaway Cay. Additional details like pricing and possible guests will be announced later in the month. Tickets go on sale to the general public June 3rd, but you can go to TCMCruise.com right now and sign up for their upcoming pre-sale.
And courtesy of 20th Century Fox, they’ve announced that Martin Scorsese’s groundbreaking comedy, The King of Comedy, is now available, for the first time, on Digital HD via iTunes. The movie received a special 30th anniversary screening at the Tribeca Film Festival, and you can now purchase it to own!
That’s all from the Lake for this week!
