News From the Lake for September 17th, 2014

News

A slow news day this week (as the holidays come closer the news tends to slow down). Click below to check out what’s new on DVD and Blu-ray.

Warner Archive: Slap on your spurs and jump on a horse because Warner Archive is all about the West this week. The big exclusive is the release of Nicholas Ray’s The Lusty Men (1952), available for the first time on DVD. They’ve also exhausted their spate of Randolph Scott Westerns with this week’s release of Shoot Out at Medicine Bend (1957). Other films out this week from the studio: Raton Pass (1951), The Young Guns (1956), Oregon Passage (1957), Gunsmoke in Tucson (1958), Gunfighters of Casa Grande (1964), Son of a Gunfighter (1965), and Ringo and His Golden Pistol (1966). You can purchase all of these – and The Lusty Men is set as a Warner Archive online exclusive – via the Warner Archive website.

Kino Classics: Kino is set to release the best example of German Expressionism ever committed to celluloid, 1919’s The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Although the film’s been released several times throughout the years, Kino’s upcoming release marks the film’s Blu-ray debut. Bonus content includes a 27-minute documentary, essay booklet, and updated musical score. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari hits DVD and Blu-ray on November 18th.

Fox Cinema Archives: Fox Cinema Archives has put out Betty Grable’s island musical, Song of the Islands.
