The Lake Update for October 2014

LakeUpdate

Hi everyone! The chill is in the air, and it’s the feeling that I’m gearing up for the hardest thing I’ve done in my academic career: the Masters Exam! Yep, November 14th is the big day and I’m telling you this because I assume you readers and I are friends, and it’ll also explain the state of the blog over the next month.

There was quite the back-and-forth in the Halloween poll I posted at the beginning of the month with Hitchcock and witches jumping out of the gate immediately (sorry Twilight Zone and Svengoolie). Up until a week ago Hitchcock led by a hefty margin but at close the results were 16-13 in favor of witches. With that, I’ll be peppering the month with witch-based films alongside a couple other movies. In the interest of time – and sanity – I’ll be doing thirteen films this Halloween starting Friday and running till October 31st. Here’s the schedule of films and dates. Note: As much as I plan to stick to dates some movies can be posted late.

October 3rdI Married a Witch (1942)

October 6th – Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933) / House of Wax (1953)

October 8th – Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971)

October 10th – The Dunwich Horror (1970)

October 13th – The Witches a.k.a. The Devil’s Own (1966)

October 15th – The Changeling (1980)

October 17th – Black Sunday (1960)

October 20th – The Clairvoyant (1934)

October 22nd – The Woman in White (1948)

October 24th – Burnt Offerings (1976)

October 27th – Haxan (1922)

October 29th – Burn, Witch, Burn (1962)

October 31st – Bell, Book, and Candle (1958)

With the holiday films during the week any book reviews will be posted Sunday while News From the Lake will retain its Wednesday afternoon slot.

That’s the month and it’ll, hopefully, keep me upbeat as I struggle throughout this month. November will be such sweet relief – unless I don’t pass and then we’ll be doing this all over again next semester.

Here’s to another spooky Halloween at Journeys in Classic Film!
