The Lake Update for June 2015

The summer is here, and if you’ve followed my various news posts than you know it’s all about TCM’s upcoming Summer of Darkness. Coupled with two months of films noir, TCM and Ball State University are pairing up to teach an online course on noir as an added way to get into the films the channel is showing. I’ve already signed up and will be participating in the course, and you should too. You can sign up here.

Other than that, I hope you’ve been enjoying the interviews and other new elements that have gone up on the site. Hopefully you’ve already read my amazing interview with Summer of Darkness host, Eddie Muller. My recent review of Lifetime’s latest Marilyn Monroe biopic that shocked even me with its quality gave the site quite a boost. I’m hoping to find some way to integrate the Summer of Darkness – both the films and the course into the site – so if you have suggestions let me know!

Also, it’s time for me to start nailing down this year’s participants for The July Five 2015. The July Five is my tribute to five people – I usually try to do one couple – over five days with five different movies. You can read past July Five entries at their section. I have a few people in my mind for this year, but I’m open to suggestions so long as they have a broad film canon to choose from.

With that, it’s going to be pretty noir-y this month (if that’s not a word, I just coined it!) as we enter into the halcyon summer days. Hopefully Journeys in Classic Film will help you beat the heat!
