News From the Lake
News in a nutshell: (I’m taking a much needed vacation so apologies for the rather lackluster news.) Judy Garland gets a billboard and what’s new on DVD and Blu.
getTV found quite the success with their airing of The Judy Garland Show. Los Angeles visitors and residents who stop by the former MGM Studios lot can now see a billboard advertising the show. It’s ironic that the studio which made Garland a star still shows her presence! If you’re fortunate to receive getTV in your area, be sure to watch Judy!
New on DVD and Blu
TCM: A few weeks ago TCM aired a spate of television appearances James Dean did before stardom took him away. They’re releasing the shows on a 3-disc set entitled James Dean: The Lost Television Legacy. The set includes 19 full-length episodes, two original commercials, and two clips, all featuring Dean, as well as a host of bonus features. It’s available now at the TCM Shop site.
Universal Vault: After being taken to task in print for their lackluster output, the Universal Vault collection releases seven titles after a three-month hiatus. Topping the list: Ernst Lubitsch’s The Broken Lullaby (1932), Deanna Durbin in 100 Men and a Girl (1937), and Joel McCrea in Wells Fargo (1937). Also debuting: The Female Animal (1958), A Gathering of Eagles (1963), Never Say Goodbye (1956), and Scarlet Angel (1952).
