The Top 10 Most Read Articles of 2016

2016 was a hard year for everyone. The horrendous classic film related dirge of death rolled on all year, and is still on-going. For me, the saddest thing was realizing how low on the priority list the site became as I segued into freelance writing. However, by year’s end I was burned out and it’s only been in the last few days that returning to this site has become a solace. And it’s remarkable to see that, even though I fell down on the writing front, you guys still kept coming back to read things. So let’s look at what everyone was reading this year on JCF while I was off chasing the almighty dollar.

10. Sabrina (1954) – 730 HITS

Everyone loves Audrey Hepburn. That’s the only way I can explain the popularity of a post from four years in the site’s infancy. Hey, I can’t fault the readers. Sabrina remains a swoony, romantic tale with a fantastic trio in the aforementioned Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart and William Holden. TCM’s played it a fair bit this year, so if you haven’t watched it already, give it time.

9. The 2016 TCM Summer Under the Stars Blogathon – 746 HITS

This was the only item from this year to make the top ten, and that shows how little original content I put out, and for that I apologize. However, this year’s Summer Under the Stars blogathon was so fun to put on. Some great sites participated. I gave out some fantastic prizes, and it reminds me how fantastic the SUTS series truly is. 8. The 20 Most Seductive Scenes in Classic Film – 749 HITS

This was number five on last year’s list but an article this sexy never gets old! I’m actually on the hunt for the next Top 20 topic. We’ve covered seduction and dancing. What topic should I work on next? Leave all suggestions in the comments below!

7. My Interview With Jane Withers – 760 HITS

My interview with Jane Withers returns into the Top 10 after being a no-show last year. This remains one of the funnest interviews I’ve conducted, and after the year we’ve had we should all be thankful Jane is still with us!

6. High Society (1956) – 790 HITS

I can’t say my opinion on High Society has gotten any…higher. (See what I did there?) I know a lot of people who enjoy it, and several people must still since it actually moved up a place from it’s spot on the list last year. Grace, Frank and Bing must make for quite the trio. Did ya evah?

5. Alice, Sweet Alice (1976) – 796 HITS

I know TCM showed this a few weeks ago, which could explain the uptick in reads. This is another I haven’t felt the urge to revisit since my initial review.

4. Interview with Dena Kaye – 924 HITS

My interview with Danny Kaye’s daughter Dena hasn’t moved from the place where it was on the list last year, and that’s great! This was another amazing interview opportunity and I still find myself enjoying Danny Kaye’s work today.

3. Veronica: The Autobiography of Veronica Lake – 1,033 HITS

This jumped up from the number ten position last year and I couldn’t be happier. You all know I’ve been researching Veronica like crazy and this year gave me a big break that I hope to share with you soon. In the meantime, keep checking out my Veronica posts and learn all you can!

2. This Property is Condemned (1966) – 1,092 HITS

Like my Veronica piece this also had a significant jump, pole vaulting from the number 8 place all the way to 2. Maybe it’s because Warner Archive rereleased it on DVD? Or because you just can’t deny the sheer beauty that is Natalie Wood and Robert Redford? I’m a huge fan of this underrated film (and Redford is gorgeous, of course!).

1. Gone Too Soon Blogathon 2012: Maggie McNamara – 1,386 HITS

Who knew that after four years this blogathon post would continue to be the most read article in the site’s history. I’ve been fortunate to have comments left from Maggie’s extended family, and I’d love to have more research done on her. It’s evident there are Maggie fans around the world, and I hope to do more towards solidifying her legacy in 2017.
