Summer Under the Stars- Kim Novak (August 3rd)
Some Reflection:
I’m embarrassingly late to the work of Kim Novak. Don’t get me wrong, she’s one of those performers who has always been in my pop culture consciousness, thanks to her work in the iconic Alfred Hitchcock film Vertigo. However, the pandemic allowed yours truly to finally jump into some of her lesser known films and I decided one thing: Hollywood didn’t quite know how to use Kim Novak. So many of her roles show Novak as a woman underestimated by everyone. She’s defined by her beauty, but there’s always something beneath the surface.

If You Watch One Thing:
This is a hard question. I really want to say Bell, Book and Candle. I haven’t shied away from admitting that the supernatural, romantic comedy is one of my all-time favorite Novak roles. However, I’m going to mix things up a bit and mention The Notorious Landlady (1962). The always delightful Jack Lemmon co-stars opposite Novak alongside the always amazing Fred Astaire. The movie is an interesting and decidedly unique comedy following a diplomat who falls in love with a gorgeous woman. Unfortunately, there’s one small problem…. she might have committed murder!
