Summer Under the Stars- Van Heflin (August 20th)

Some Reflection :

This my friends is another of the days I’m really looking forward to face planting into my Watch TCM queue. I have always found Van Heflin to be an incredibly charismatic, interesting performer; however, that’s not really based on much!

In truth, I’m not entirely sure how many of Van Heflin movies I’ve seen. He’s always a solid, stalwart figure, often best put to use in westerns and film noir. However, looking at his filmography, I haven’t actually watched many of his movies.

I’m ready to jump into a day of Van Heflin movies and grow more of an opinion. It’s easy to like someone, but I want to know why I like him! The completist in me is itching to get watching.

A Career in Review:

Green Dolphin Street (1947)

Possessed (1947)

East Side, West Side (1949)

The Prowler (1951)

Black Widow (1954)

If You Can Only Watch One

This is a hard one! I mean, this is mainly because I’ve heard amazing things about a number of these movies, but (as mentioned!) have actually watched precious few.

I’m really excited to check out Johnny Eager which airs on the network during prime time (8:00pm EST). The 1942 film noir is a deeper cut of the movement and stars Robert Taylor and the iconic Lana Turner in a story of gangsters, crime and racketeering.
