Summer Under the Stars- Tony Randall (August 26th)
Some Reflection:
The lack of written work I have is on Tony Randall is a bit of travesty. I quite like Tony Randall! I’ve talked quite often about my childhood spent watching Nick at Night, so it goes without saying that his work on The Odd Couple makes up some of my earliest memories.
Tony Randall often played varied takes on a similar character, but I would be lying if I said I didn’t always enjoy it. Wether you’re watching Pillow Talk, Boy’s Night Out, The Odd Couple or even something like The Alphabet Murders, he’s always a joy to watch.
He’s Tony flipping Randall, after all.
What movies are you looking forward to watching?
A Career in Review:
If You Can Only Watch One:
I bet regular readers can guess what I’m going to say here…
…
…
If you said Pillow Talk… you’re wrong. I mean, yeah. Pillow Talk is a candy colored delight and you’re perfectly in you rights to make sure to catch this one. I mean, remember, perennial Kim favorite William Schallert does appear as a hotel clerk.
The film I am going to hype… if you check out my video review above… is Boy’s Night Out. I mentioned this one a lot earlier this month as this probably my favorite Kim Novak movie. I was a little surprised to see this one delayed till the end of the month. I know, Tony Randall deserves some love too.
Boy’s Night Out is a fairly standard early 1960s sex comedy following four married, suburban men (James Garner, Tony Randall, Howard Morris and Howard Duff) as they rent a bachelor pad in the city. And as luck would have it, they find a young, beautiful woman (Kim Novak) to not only live in the apartment, but to “see” them all in turn. There’s only one catch, she’s actually a sociology student studying the sex lives of the suburban male.
There’s more to it than this description implies. Boy’s Night Out features fun character work from the whole cast. I’d be remiss if I didn’t also mention Jessie Royce Landis, Janet Blair, Patti Page and Anne Jeffreys as the men’s long suffering companions.
If you do nothing else today, DVR this one.
Boy’s Night Out airs today at 9:45am EST.
