About Me

Ticklish Business started in 2016 as an offshoot of the site Journeys in Classic Film. Our creator Kristen Lopez had been blogging extensively on classic cinema and wanted to go further. Around this time Karina Longworth started her show, You Must Remember This, and Kristen wanted to do something in the same vein, but different from Longworth’s show (wonderful as it is). Taking the idea of doing a TCM-esque style show on the air, she started Ticklish Business (the name derived from a line in 1953’s Gentlemen Prefer Blondes) and we were up and running.
The show has interviewed numerous celebrities, authors, and fellow classic film podcasters including Carroll Baker, Dyan Cannon, and Terry Moore. We’ve covered the TCM Classic Film Festival for the last six years and shared our audio on the show to give listeners a chance to experience the festival even if they’ve never attended in-person. In 2018 the show brought on co-hosts Samantha Ellis and Drea Clark and in 2021 the Ticklish Biz family grew with Kimberly Pierce who not only joined in as host but also operates the website and acts as show producer, editing everything you hear.
In 2020 we celebrated our “Road to 100” episodes, bringing in special guests Karina Longworth, Dyan Cannon, Anna Biller, and Eddie Muller. At the end of 2021 host Drea Clark said goodbye to being a full-time member of the show.
Samantha and Kimberly both love and revere classic films and hope to share their love of the medium with all you amazing listeners!
Love your blog!
But movies in black and white are so freaking awesome! Glenn Ford is one of my old time faves. “The Big Heat” was pretty neat. Have you seen it by any chance?
-MTO
I haven’t seen The Big Heat but it is on my Netflix (I always get it confused with The Big Sleep which is one of my favorite movies). I take any and all recommendations so send them my way!
I like your passion for the films, I myself am great enthusiast about movies, great work dear, and I want to make you feel proud of yourself by saying that I am from Karachi (Sindh, Pakistan) and reading your review here in Pakistan. Best of luck in your work and graduation.

The Sunshine Blog Award is doing the rounds, and I’ve nominated you for it. http://greenpawpaw.wordpress.com/2012/04/14/avast-ye-devils-snare-i-got-me-some-sunshine/
Although, I think your blog deserves something more than a pretty flower. I absolutely love it.
Aw I am honored…my first blog award (a true badge of honor for me)! It’s proof that my blog isn’t a series of scribbles and rants! Thank you!!!
Great blog!
Thanks!!
There you go. Another one, you versatile thing. 🙂

Tanya you are an angel!
Hahaha! That’s something I’ve never been called before! 😛
I should’ve checked this site out long ago. I really enjoy your well-rounded movie tastes, and your honesty in tackling new things. Your site is the sort of place that inspires people to check out new things. Big thumbs up from me, ma’am.
Aw thanks for the kind words. This site has definitely inspired me! In doing it for the last six months I’ve made a wealth of new friends, seen a lot of great movies. I did a podcast for five years and never got nearly the followers I’ve gotten here.
Hey!
Nick from http://www.cinekatz.com here. Doing some scout work for the LAMB. We’re wanting to make an email newsletter for community features as well as a list we’re making similar to Sight & Sound’s best movies of all time list. Just need an email! Email me at npowe131 at gmail.com
Constant TCM watcher here! Coppelia up right now (Walter Slezak). Happened on your blog Googling the movie. Thanks for your comments. Surprised you haven’t seen The Big Heat (every bit as good as the Bogie movie you confuse it with!)
Welcome Hutch, hope to see you around more. It seems my Coppelia review has definitely drawn in some new blood. I do hope to get to The Big Heat soon, who doesn’t love Bogie! Thanks for visiting.
Excellent effort and sincere love of the b&w classics and, yes, I, too, slap my head when I hear someone say..”but it’s b&w”! Today’s Hollywood is mostly superficial hyperkinetic violence & sex extravaganzas lacking depth and offering not much in terms of truly ‘pushing the envelope’ on themes that matter to humanity. You view 1945’s Oscar winner The Lost Weekend,The Vanishing Lady, 39 Steps, Casablanca, the Big Sleep or the Third Man and you can forget (with few exceptions like Network, Three Days of the Condor or Chinatown–as much as I despise its director) about the last few decades’ meandering mediocrities….Thank you for your passion and insights…great chiaroscuro montage!!
Thanks so much! It’s comments like these that prove to me I’m not just a rambler!
Old films are far superior to the modern era! I grew up watching films with my Grandparents and that’s where my passion was born. Black and white is beautiful! The musical genre outstanding and the characters fascinating both on and off screen.
I watch about an equal amount of contemporary to classic. I think both schools have their own individual merits but are two opposites of the same coin.
Recasting West Side Story. The Dream Team.
Riff = Mark Wahlberg (in his punkish prime)
Anita = JLo (Shes PR. Shed kill America)
Bernardo = Mark Antony (gaunt snd tough. Is he PR?)
Tony = Ricky Martin
Maria = Christina Aguilera (killer pipes, Latina)
Doc = Woody Allen
Officer Krupke = Rudy Giuliani
Kristen,
Found your website while checking out “I’ll Be Seeing You”. Great comments on the movie! Enjoyed your “About Me” section. Nice you put in web links. I’ll have to check them out soon. I have created a shortcut on my cellphone, so I can easily return to your site. Keep up the great work. Love the classic old movies too. Don’t mind them in black and white either.
I’ll be back!
Barbara
Hey, EtPulsifer here. I noticed your blog and love your opinions on the films as of late. You seem to know your stuff pretty well, and your organization is pleasant to look at as well.
I’ve just started a blog of my own, The Montasio and Nebbiolo Theatre (http://montasioandnebbiolotheatre.blog.com/), and I’m hoping you can check it out and give me some pointers. I seem to have some unconventional opinions on classic films, after looking around. There isn’t much now, but I hope to update more and more with more and more films.
I hope it’s not too much trouble to ask, and I hope to hear from you soon. Thank you for your time.
Hi there, thanks for your kind words on my blog. I checked out your site and I love your layout (although, I found the background a bit dark, you might want to consider brightening it up or brightening the text). You definitely have a unique approach and appreciation of films and there’s definitely room to grow. I look forward to seeing what you do! Feel free to email or comment whenever you need tips!
Hi, great blog and I’ve nominated you for a blogger recognition award, best wishes and check out my page for details, Steve http://wp.me/p4F0Np-BG

Hi Kristen, Hope you are well. Kristen, I am the manager of Enrichment at Princess Cruises, Los Angeles. I spoke very briefly with Miss Jane Withers today, although she did sound very tired. Do you know if she has a family member, carer or representative that I can talk to ?
