News From the Lake for September 4th, 2013

A brief News From the Lake this week as there’s only two upcoming DVD announcements to report on.

Olive Films: Go back to 1968 with Olive Films announcement that they’ll be releasing The Bamboo Saucer.  Actor Dan Duryea’s final film – posthumously released – the movie follows a team of scientists who travel to Red China to investigate a downed UFO; so that title is informative and vaguely racist?  The Bamboo Saucer hits store shelves October 15th.

Warner Archive: With school back in session, Warner Archive is releasing a spate of titles that will make you wish the kinder, simpler days of schoolyard innocence.  New to the archive is Penrod and Sam (1931); the return of the Andy Hardy Collection, Volumes 1 and 2; Judy Garland in Everybody Sing (1938); Hell’s Kitchen (1939); Jackie Cooper in Gallant Sons (1940); and Dorothy Dandridge in Bright Road (1953).  You can order any of this titles – manufactured on-demand – from the Warner Archive website.
